Migration..

I'm about to take what I call a forced migration...like a bird abandoning its nest, I'm letting go of a much-beloved software application...Apple's Aperture...software I deliberately chose over its primary competitor...the one that I'm now going to be migrating my image catalog to...(I can't believe I still feel a slight discomfort anytime I break a long-accepted, but recently left-behind grammar rule...ending a sentence with a preposition for those of you who didn't notice)...

I'm especially afraid to move to a solution that has so many privacy implications...where everything gets done on a cloud (it sounds lovely, doesn't it?)...hosted by a company, Adobe, that has already proven it cannot be trusted with my personal information...storing passwords unencrypted...really?...and then leaving them where they can be easily found?...doesn't anyone have standards any longer?...; )

This is only one of the reasons it feels like a forced migration...and then I remind myself that I'm always at choice...in this case, there are just a lot of market constraints...

So, I'm making do...learning anew...and every once in awhile there is a small, pleasant surprise...like Adobe Voice...a mobile app that allowed me to make a video of my images, add a voiceover story and publish my final product...all in under ten minutes...a proof of concept that I'll likely never use again as it requires Adobe branding, can't be exported to any other format and can only be published on Adobe's Voice site...where, of course, when you visit, you too will be invited to become an Adobe Voice user...

And isn't that the way of everything today?...from purses with enormous lettering to shoes with red soles, it's almost impossible to find something that just works and doesn't scream the name of its creator...and maybe there's nothing wrong with that...

After all, if we all had God stamped on our foreheads, we'd probably be kinder to each other...
