Questioning...

If you saw something, would you say something?...the slogan "If you see something, say something" has become a cornerstone of Homeland Security's war on terrorism...It is the slogan that launched an aggressive public awareness campaign designed to encourage citizens...people like you and me...to speak up and report suspicious activity...in return, we were promised that our privacy, civil rights and civil liberties would be protected...

If only the government had meant it, we might still live in a free America...instead, we live in an America where women's handbags are searched...their personal hygiene items...tampons and sanitary napkins...are confiscated...before they are allowed to enter a government building...this is the kind of protection Homeland Security provides...

I find myself questioning many things lately...I hope you do too...and one of the things I am trying to decide for myself is this:  is Eric Snowden a patriot who deserves my full support or is he the villain my government says he is...

I read two letters today...the first is a letter of support Lou Snowden wrote to his son...the most amazing love letter I have ever read...the second is Eric Snowden's letter accepting asylum in all of the countries that have offered it...in which he acknowledges he may never leave the limbo of his current surroundings...

In pledging my allegiance to America...just like I am sure Eric Snowden has done hundreds of times...I did so to the Constitution...not to the government institutions and the leaders who run them...If I believed that a government institution had lost its way...had exceeded its authority...was repeatedly breaking the law...if I believed every citizen's civil liberties were being violated...what would I do about it?...

I believe I have seen something...now the real test is whether I will say something...
