I rarely use this blog to endorse things...even less often to plug a new, unproven product in the marketplace...and this time, I cannot help myself (yes, in my generation, cannot was a single word)...
I am in love with my new Trunk, a bendable cable that plugs into any USB port...made by ilovehandles.com, the Trunk has an Apple lightning connection on the other end that lets you connect it to your iPhone 5...
I use mine in my vehicle...plugged into a Monster USB cigarette lighter adaptor, my iPhone 5 is always charged and ready to go...this new setup replaces a much more elaborate, and very ugly, Belkin Tunebase...designed for the iPhone 4, I modified the Tunebase using velcro and a Lightning adaptor...to force it to connect to my newest phone...even uglier than the original, it was mostly functional...as long as I didn't want to use the phone's home button...
With the Trunk, the connection is simple...the phone stays where I put it...I can reach the home button with ease (please, don't tell the California Highway Patrol)...I can immediately respond to Siri's questions...(yes, I too look forward to a time when she understands my every command)...
The beauty of the Trunk is that it stays in the position you bend it...I over-extended the bend slightly past where I needed the phone to be...this creates just the extra tension needed to allow the dash to keep the iPhone in place...and with the Monster adaptor, which fits tightly in the cigarette lighter, the phone barely moves...even when I take curves really fast (OK, I admit it...I drive this way normally)...
My single complaint?...currently, the Trunk is available with a Lightning connection only in white (there is a black micro USB version)...although most automobile instrument panels are black...even when the interior, like mine, is another color entirely...I'm hoping ilovehandles.com recognizes this soon and begins offering a black model with a Lightning connection...
In the meantime, I'm ecstatic to find a cable that gives my iPhone a safe, comfortable perch in my car...finally, no need for any other navigation system...and the phone stays put...exactly where I want it...
