Whirlwind...

Have you ever experienced the feeling that all the stars are aligning in your favor?...that's what happened for me last Saturday...I was searching the Internet for the umpteenth time...and found my "new-to-me" automobile...at an unexpected place...in an unexpected way...at an unexpected moment...

I had known for some time exactly what I wanted...what make, model, year, color, features and how much I was willing to pay...I just couldn't find it...after shopping for weeks...throughout Sacramento and the Bay Area...my dream car was still eluding me... 

At one point, I almost gave up looking...then a curious thing happened...I used an exercise from a class I had taken many years ago...an exercise that invites you to relax, widen your viewpoint, feel the big picture...an exercise that, when done to completion,  creates the space from which solutions magically appear...

That's when I finally saw the pattern...Northern California dealers occasionally buying cars from a single, Southern California dealership...not regularly, but often enough that it was noticeable...which is how I came to meet Raj Muthya...the Internet Sales Consultant at Jim Falk's Lexus dealership in Beverly HIlls, California...the place where I found more certified used vehicles online than anywhere else...

Of course, it helps to be located in a neighborhood with a limitless source of lessees...people who typically keep vehicles for a short period of time, garage them, valet park them, service them on schedule...creating the constant turnover that has made this Beverly Hills location the fourth largest Lexus dealer in the Nation...

Even better? My dream car was sitting on their lot...exact combination of features I was wanting, with only a couple of extras I didn't care about...impossibly low mileage...pristine condition...and best of all...very low prices compared to dealerships at home...

This last fact made me skeptical...then I talked to Raj first thing Sunday morning...he explained that..unlike other dealers...his has a "one price" policy on their certified pre-owned cars...no haggling, no bargaining...you like it, you pay it...or you leave it behind...and did I mention you can buy a 2012 there for the price of a 2010 at home?

So I surprised myself...without seeing it or driving it, I bought the car...a car I found on the Internet...a car I purchased over the phone...before someone else got to it first...

This is what led to the whirlwind trip to Los Angeles the next day...a quick flight...a short taxi drive...Raj had the car and the paperwork ready when I arrived...a brief visit with the finance manager and the car was mine...instead of spending six hours haggling over the price, I spent my time driving my newly purchased car over the Grapevine...to its new home in Northern California...and, yes, I could have had it shipped but what fun is that?!...
