Grand...

There used to be an extraordinary building in Sacramento...the Alhambra Theatre...designed in the Moorish style, it had beautifully ornate interiors...it was surrounded by gardens and a large fountain...I still remember the bronze plaque that greeted visitors with a stanza from God's Garden...

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

It was one of my favorite places to see movies when I was child...now it's a Safeway supermarket...

There are two remaining theaters in Sacramento that have historic significance and continue to show films...I visited one today...the Tower Theater...built in the art deco style, at one time it was truly grand...although it has fallen into disrepair, the bones are still good and the grounds, full of palm trees and fountains, are quite lovely...
